Prologue

¡°Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.¡± (Psalm 119:105)

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and the Holy Bible is the most important classic of Christianity. Since it was first translated into Chinese, the Bible has always been cherished by Chinese Christians. The Bible holds an important place in the hearts and lives of Chinese Christians.

Since the founding of New China, Bible ministries have continued to develop in China. Especially since 1980, with China¡¯s policy of reform and opening to the outside world, the churches in China have developed to an unprecedented degree thanks to the government¡¯s earnest implementation of the policy of religious freedom. In China there are now more than 16 million Protestant Christians, over 55,000 Christian churches and meeting places, and 18 seminaries and Bible schools. There are also additional training centers for Christians in many of China's provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. The China Christian Council (CCC) and the National Committees of the Chinese Christian Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) have always viewed satisfying the increasing need of Christians for the Bible as one of their most important ministries. Over the last 10 years, approximately 2.5 million Bibles have been printed every year, and from 1981 through 2005 a total of 39.46 million Bibles has been published. The purpose of holding this exhibition is to bear witness to God's blessings and guidance in the Bible ministry of Chinese churches.

This exhibition consists of 6 display chambers. In addition to introducing the history of the Bible in China, the exhibition shows how Bibles have been printed, published and circulated by the churches in the Chinese mainland over the past twenty years, and shows how Christians passionately admire and study the Bible. The exhibition also includes handicrafts created on Biblical themes. Some of these exhibits could even be described as unique treasures.
