Bible Publication After 1980
"Your decrees are my delight, they are my counselors." (Psalm 119: 24) As a result of the ten disastrous years of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), a great many Bibles were destroyed, so there was a serious shortage of Bibles when the Chinese Church resumed its activities. In February 1980, the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) Committee of the Protestant Churches of China, which had just resumed its work, held an Enlarged Standing Committee Meeting in which the important decision was made that renewed publication of the Bible should be started as early as possible. To save time, it was suggested that the method of photographic plating be used. In October of the same year, 50,000 copies of the New Testament (Ħ°ShenĦħ edition) were printed and distributed. The pace of Bible printing in China was accelerated with the establishment of the Amity Printing Press in 1987, with priority for the press being given to printing of Bibles. Since that time, the Chinese Church has also published a variety of books and pamphlets for Bible study in order to help more people know and understand the Bible.
